Uber stripped of licence to operate in London

Uber has been sensationally stripped of its licence to operate on London’s streets.
Transport for London made the announcement today in a move that could trigger the removal of tens of thousands of its private-hire drivers from the capital.
Uber, the world’s largest taxi-hailing app, currently has more than 40,000 drivers in London. It said 3.5 million Londoners use the app.
The move is the latest in the regulator’s long-standing battle to deal with the increasing number of private hire cars on the capital’s streets.
Ahead of the announcement, Helen Chapman, TfL general manager of Taxi & Private Hire, said this week that the cost of regulation is rising due to a “huge” growth in the industry.
The licence is due to expire next Saturday, September 30. The firm has 21 days to appeal. However, it will be allowed to continue to operate during the legal process.

I dont get this country anymore. If something is good for the majority lets clearly FUCK IT UP.
How does having a black cab network benift the majority of londoners more than Uber? It doesnt. Thats the problem here. It benifits a a few thousand black cab drivers.
How can you be mayor for 9m people and only care about the interests of a few thousand black cab drivers who have a monopoly over driving people places for some fucking stupid reason.
This country is as backward as fuck.

What a surprise, the whinging little bitch is in favour of this.
Fact is, black cab drivers had a monopoly for too long and failed to modernise. Instead of accepting this challenge and developing, they want the other way and moaned about how unfair it was.

In all seriousness I reckon they'll probably win the appeal but have to make some changes to the way they operate.
Back to minicabs and Addison lee and the night bus for me. I'm not going to be paying 25 quid for a 10 minute journey. Black cabs are just for the rich, the mugs and the tourists these days.

But seriously I wouldn't be surprised IF Uber don't win their appeal (which I expect they will do but with some concessions toward their recruitment, vetting and employee care policies) if the fares of black cabs coincidentally have a little bump.
